Mt. Kanchenjunga area enriched with dramatic landscapes covered with exotic flora and fauna with tall rhododendron, magnolia, pines and fir tree lines which drops as altitude extends towards remorseless fields of ice and snow with glaciers at Pang-Pema around Kanchenjunga North Base Camp at the height of 5,065 m, the highest spot of the adventure.

Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking a great adventure where scenic flight is involved both ways from Kathmandu to reach at Nepal Far South East around sub-tropical low-land of Terai belt, and then heading towards cooler hills of Ilam town a place with beautiful and vast Tea-Garden offers glorious views of Kanchenjunga range of peaks.

Finally reaching at starting point of the trek at Taplejung area in Sukhetar around mid hills town and villages with wide farm terraces, as adventure begins heading towards nice villages following Tamur River upstream as route takes you within dense forest to reach at nice villages of Ghunsa.

From Ghunsa onward within Buddhism cultural villages with time to explore nice areas of Ghunsa and other settlements of Taplethok, Sakathum, Amjilasa and Gyable on route to Kanchenjunga base camp at Pang-Pema.

Slowly green vegetation and tree lines disappears as walk lead to much higher ground to reach at most scenic and wonderful spot at Pang-Pema within Mt. Kanchenjunga base camp enclosed by array of peaks with Kabru, Koptang, Mt. Jannu and series of high mountain range with close views of tumbling massive ice-falls and glaciers of Mt. Kanchenjunga.

Enjoying fantastic time at Pang-Pema a name for North side of Kanchenjunga base camp, then walk on same route with long descend to reach back into green tree lines and forest within farm settlement then back at Taplejung in Sukhetar for exciting drive to reach low warm Terai region for scenic flight to Kathmandu.

Day 01: Fly to Bhadrapur 350 m and drive to Ilam Town 1,360 m – 45 mins flight and 4 hrs drive with overnight stop at Ilam town.
Day 02: Drive to Taplejung 1,820 m -04 hrs.
Day 03: Trek to Sinuwa 980m – 06 hrs.
Day 04: Trek to Taplethok 1,380 m – 05 hrs.
Day 05: Trek to Sakathum 1,575 m – 05 hrs.
Day 06: Trek to Amjilasa 2,310 m – 05 hrs.
Day 07: Trek to Gyable 2,730 m – 05 hrs.

Seasons for Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp Trekking:
March to May months of the year and from September to November, the best times March to May with mid September to November months.

March to May lively during spring season with wild flowers in full blooming times especially the national flower of Nepal the Rhododendron with magnolia and other wild-flowers makes a pretty pictures to capture.

Days are longer with much sunlight hour cold in the morning and night times as well in shady area, late afternoon can get cloudy but with clear morning till mid noon for excellent views of peaks and walks, expect snow, expect some snow sometimes during the best time also around high hills and at Pang-Pema Kanchenjunga North Base Camp.

Mid September to November months in autumn and fall most days are clear for spectacular mountain views and pleasant short walks, expect cold with freezing temperatures during morning and night times can get snowed on route walks towards Kanchenjunga base camp.

Day 1
Fly to Bhadrapur 350 m and drive to Ilam Town 1,360 m-45 mins flight, 4 hrs drives.

As per flight time for Bhadrapur town located Nepal Far South East around Terai belt, the low land of the country, where our marvelous Kanchenjunga North and South base camp adventure begins, a scenic flight from Kathmandu takes you to land at warmer south east at Bhadrapur airport located near the eastern border of India.

From here, an interesting drive towards cooler alpine hills covered with tall pines and vast tea garden to then reach scenic Ilam town for overnight stop.

Day 2
Drive to Taplejung 1,820 m -04 hrs.

Morning taking short drives to Taplejung area reaching at Sukhetar with small airstrip where flight to Biratnagar city and to Kathmandu operates on daily basis.

But the flight to and from Kathmandu –Bhiratnagar-Sukhetar very unreliable, that is why most company and trekkers use flight to Bhadrapur to make our itinerary program safe and enjoyable.

On reaching at hill town Taplejung near Sukhetar, where first day overnight camp will be set or in local best lodge available afternoon free to enjoy walks around the town and witness Nepalese culture of Eastern Nepal, populated mostly by Kirat tribes of Limbu with some Rai and other Hindu people Chettries and Brahmins.

Day 3
Trek to Sinuwa 1,820m - 06 hrs.

After overnight stop in Taplejung, startr first day treks heading past many small farm village to reach near Mitlung, and the our route leads on pleasant winding path with few straight up and down into forested areas of rhododendron and pines trees; where climb leads to a high hill facing scenic views of Mt. Kanchenjunga and Kabru peaks, as walk continues with descend to Tamor River encountering short ups and down-hill to Sinuwa village for overnight stop.

Day 4
Trek to Taplethok 1,380 m - 05 hrs.

From Sinuwa descend towards Tawa village to cross several smaller fresh streams reaching into spread out farm villages to reach at Chirwa, a nice village of mix tribes dominated mostly by Rai (Kirat tribe) some Magar, Tamang and Hindu Chettries, Brahmins with Dalits people with time to explore this nice village.

Enjoying stops at Chirwa, morning walk heading past several neat smaller farm villages to reach a river bank of mix country where you can witness cultivation of cardamom fields in the dark shade of dense tree line.

From here walk higher up over farm fields with short descend to overnight camp at Taplethok a lovely farm village close to Lelep, here air gets much cooler with dramatic change of culture of more Tibetan Buddhist religions.

Day 5
Trek to Sakathum 1,575 m - 05 hrs.

After Taplethok within interesting farm villages as walk leads past many scattered farm villages with paddy fields and terraces to enter a patch of cool forest with short ups facing views of distant peaks and then reaching a nice agriculture farm village at Sakathum where overnight camp is pitched near the village back yard.

Day 6
Trek to Amjilasa 2,310 m - 05 hrs.

Enjoying pleasant overnight at Sakathum, morning walk heading past several neat smaller farm villages to reach a river bank of mix country where you can witness cultivation of cardamom fields in the dark shade of dense tree line.

Journey continues to reach higher gaining more elevation heading past farm fields and villages facing views of distant peaks with rolling green hills as walk leads into a valley filled with nice cool woodland then reaching a high village at Amjilasa for overnight stop.

Day 7
Trek to Gyable 2,730 m - 05 hrs.

Morning walk continues along higher side as altitude gain slowly leading towards much cooler area as paddy farms area stops, then walk gets closer to mountainous around high hill areas encountering several scattered summer pastures and grazing areas to reach at Gyabla or Kyapra for overnight stop within a small cattle herders and farm village, mostly populated by Tibetan like mountain tribes with Sherpa and Bhotia people of Buddhist religion and culture.

Day 8
Trek to Ghunsa 3,595 m - 04 hrs.

Morning begins with gentle walk on down-hill as climb starts for an hour within forest of pines-oaks and rhododendron trees as walk reaches a nice flat area on reaching Ghunsa river, from here on pleasant walk to Ghunsa village for overnight stop, a nice and interesting village populated by Bhotia and Sherpa tribes of Tibetan origin with houses built with stones includes neat small farm.

Day 9
Rest day for acclimatization and short hike.

A perfect place for rest and acclimatization before heading to higher areas and at Kanchenjunga base camp, here hike around nice village of impressive Buddhist culture takes you at scenic view point hill for best panorama of mountains and surrounding landscapes.

Day 10
Trek to Kambachen 4,000m -06hrs.

Walk from here leads to climb following a river with views of waterfalls along the walks, Yak herders may be met along the trail depending upon grazing season.

The trail goes from right bank of river Ghunsa, and through rhododendron and pine forest, as walk leads to a gradual ascend to Rambuk Kharkas and then crossing a small glacier landslide.

The trek continues with excellent views of Khumbukarna and Janu and other high snow capped peaks and then leaving tree lines head towards barren country encountering only few short bushes and scrub of juniper, after Rambuk Kharka climb, and then trail leads to a gentle down to Khambachen after crossing a landslide section to camp at Kambachen with views of Sharphu (7,070m.) with Mt. Janu and Wedge peak.

Day 11
Trek to Lhonak 4,780m - 06 hrs.

From here our route follows above river for an hour and then heading further east, as our walk heads down to a river, as climbs reaches rocks and boulder areas leading to a terminal moraine of Kanchenjunga glacier, on leaving Ramtang Kharka (a Sheppard place) where trail joins Kanchenjunga glacier and then crossing at a junction of Lhonak and Kanchenjunga glacier overlooking grand views of Mera, Nepal Peak and Wedge Peak.

Day 12
Hike to Pang Pema at Kanchenjunga North Base Camp 5,065m - 06 hrs.

Today hike to Pang Pema to our main goal of the adventure walk starts with gentle climb above a river with impressive views of Kirat Chuli, Nepal Peak, Taple Sikhar, and Givegela Chuli. The first part of the climbs is gentle and then heading through a boulder on rocky trail.

Walking between grassy slopes and to a glacier path up at Kanchenjunga North Base Camp with chances of spotting herds of blue sheep’s around this wilderness of mountains and glaciers.

After wonderful scenic time within massive Kanchenjunga peaks and then heading back to camp at Lhonak with wonderful day at Pang Pema around Kanchenjunga base camp.

Day 13
Trek to Ghunsa, 3,480 m - 07 hrs.

Retrace the journey back on the same route past Kambachen to overnight camp at Ghunsa after a long day and exciting walks to North Kanchenjunga Base Camp.

Day 14
Trek to Gyapla Phedi 2,300m - 07hrs.

From here walk on same scenic route allows you to observe more of the beautiful country looking at views of mountains past scattered cattle herder summer camps to reach at Gypla Phedi, on lower alpine areas for overnight stop.

Day 15
Trek to Sekathum / Japantar 1,350m - 07 hrs.

Moderate and easy walk to warm area and back into farm fields and terraces within nice rural villages to reach at Sekathum or near to Japantar for overnight stop, where walks leads into much lower areas within farm villages growing much better crops and citric fruits.

Day 16
Trek to Chirwa 1,250 m - 06 hrs.

Enjoy walk towards low warm areas, as morning leads past many small farm houses and fields, where you will be greeted with friendly cheerful smiles as walk leads through villages and patch of cool forest areas to reach at Chirwa for overnight stops.

Day 17
Trek to Phurumbu School 1,500 m -07hrs.

Although route leads downhill, but with short climb in the shade of cool air after getting much warmer around low and foot hills of Kanchenjunga areas, slowly our walk reaching at small place to camp at Phurumbu School premises.

Day 18
Trek to Suketar 2,440 m -04 hrs.

Last day of the adventure as walk leads back at Sukhetar around Tapeljung town and village, slowly walk leads to reach Sukhetar for overnight stop.

Day 19
Drive back to Ilam town or beyond - 05 / 06 hrs.

Drive towards Ilam town or further down to complete our adventure taking an exciting drive to reach at nice hill town in Ilam with its vast garden of Tea, after few hours of scenic ride reaching at Ilam, with time visiting around as well to observe interesting local culture and custom.

Day 20
Drive to Bhadrapur and fly to Kathmandu with afternoon free at leisure.

Morning drive south around low land of Terai belt as drive ends on reaching Bhadrapur airport, from here taking a short panoramic flight back to Kathmandu, after completing most remarkable adventure with amazing time on Mt. Kanchenjunga Base Camp trekking.
